American Heart Association Cholesterol Information


More and more number of lives is taken every year due to heart diseases and thus American Heart Association has provided basic information on cholesterol under the headings of The Essentials, Source, Problem and Solution.  As per the essentials it is not necessary that cholesterol is a bad body fat, rather it can be said as a fatty substance which do not get dissolved by the blood and floats on it. Cholesterol is mobilized by two carriers called HDL and LDL. 

LDL is harmful for health as its excess amount causes blockage of blood. HDL on the other hand is good for health as it helps to unclog the blood vessels and repairs the damage caused by LDL. AHA indicates that there are two main sources for this problem which include the food we eat and the liver. As per the information, cholesterol becomes a problem when LDL level rises and HDL count becomes less. Since one cannot control the cholesterol production made by the liver thus it should be controlled through the food we eat.

As per AHA the solution to fight cholesterol involves healthy lifestyle, well balanced diet and exercise. Intake of meat should be minimum and fresh fruits and leafy vegetables should be included in every meal. Consuming fiber rich food items also proves to be an effective way of controlling cholesterol as per AHA information.
