Can Animals Get High Cholesterol?
|
Dogs and cats, the animals which are man’s companions are more prone to high cholesterol problems. The cholesterol is mainly present in the serum of these animals. There are chances that they develop a condition known as hypercholesterolemia an aberrant condition that is characterized by a rise in the cholesterol levels in the serum.
This condition is harmful for animals too like the humans which cause health related problems in these animals. This condition generally occurs along with cholestasis, hypothyroidism, renal failure usually chronic, hyperadrenocorticoidism, idiopathic hypercholesterolemia, diabetes mellitus, primary hyperchylomicronemia and lipoprotein lipase deficiency. Reduction of cholesterol levels in the serum of these animals is the latest venture by the medical community. The levels of cholesterol in the serum of these animals can be efficiently and conveniently lowered by providing the animals with a food composition that lowers the cholesterol without any side effects as a part of their diet.
Based on the serum lipid profiles of the animals, the level of cholesterol is determined and accordingly the food additives are included in the diet. The general food composition contains dietary oat (which could be in the region of one-fifth of total food consumed) and this helps in reducing the levels of serum cholesterol in the animals quite considerably.
