Atorvastatin is described as a synthetic agent meant for lipid lowering. It also belongs to the group of drugs known as statins. It helps in inhibiting-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase, which is an enzyme that works as a catalyst in the conversion procedure of HMG-CoA into mevalonate.
The initial recommended dosage of this medication to lower cholesterol and triglycerides levels in the body ranges in between 10 to 20 mg per day. This medication is taken once a day. The medication should be taken at the same time every day. This will maintain the level of the medication in the body. For some patients the dosage can be recommended of 40mg per day.
