|
The level of different types of cholesterol in the body is indicated through various numbers which may help to point out risk factor if any. Lipoprotein profile is one of the most common tests which are done to get the cholesterol numbers. LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein) is better known as bad cholesterol as it causes the blockage of arteries and leads to heart attack.
Thus it is always better to have low number of this cholesterol. LDL number should be less than 100 and its normal range is between 100 and 129. HDL on the other hand is the good variety of cholesterol as it is healthy for the body. Thus high HDL numbers are considered to be better and for an average woman it should be around 55 and for average men it should be 45. Triglycerides are also an important factor in consideration of cholesterol numbers. It is basically a type of fat with correlates with the total cholesterol levels in the body. The normal Triglycerides number should be less than 150. Above all, the number of total cholesterol below 200 is considered to be normal. All these numbers are measured by the milligrams of cholesterol present in every deciliter of our blood i.e. mg/dl.
