Eating Out With High Cholesterol


Several restaurants offer tasty, low-cholesterol, low-fat dishes. The following tips will help you to make the best decision for an enjoyable and healthy meal when eating out.

Before you order:

  • Familiar with the meals that are served? Decide on your order before you arrive. This helps you to be able to avoid all those tempting dishes.
  • Remove any temptations that are on your table, such as butter.
  • Drink water ahead of your food.

When ordering:

  • Search for dishes that are broiled, steamed, roasted, or grilled.
  • Do not order fried potatoes, instead order it baked without the sour cream and butter.
  • Place your order before everyone else so that your are not influenced with other’s decisions.
  • Order fresh fruits without the whipped cream for your dessert.

Choosing A Salad:

  • Avoid chopped eggs, grated cheeses, creamy dressings, croutons, and bacon bits at the salad bar.
  • Use balsamic vinegar, instead of salad dressing.
  • If you just have to have salad dressing, put it on the side so that you do not consume a large amount.
