Excess Cholesterol in the Blood

Excess LDL cholesterol in the blood is a high risk factor because these cholesterol deposits in blood vessels narrows them down. This hardening of blood vessels can be fatal for heart and brain. It can be a risk factor because the chances of heart attack and stroke rises.

Most of the cholesterol required for aiding digestion and balancing hormones comes from the blood itself. The other kind of cholesterol is derived from the food that we eat. In blood tests performed for detecting cholesterol levels, you will find out levels of LDL, HDL, triglycerides. If the tests diagnose that there is excess of cholesterol in the blood then it is important to modify this condition using a perfect exercise and diet regime.

If the doctor feels that medication will be required he will prescribe the same. Foods eaten must be free from saturated fats which tend to increase LDL (bad cholesterol). Foods that are high in Trans fats must be avoided. Foods that are rich in monounsaturated fats can help in lowering LDL. Overall, it is important to have a balanced diet to lower LDL.
