What is Ezetimibe?
|
Ezetimibe is an anti-hyperlipidemic medicine that significantly inhibits the accumulation of low-density lipoprotein in the body. It is counted one among the best medicines for treating the elevated levels of harmful cholesterol in the blood. This drug follows a potent mechanism of dissuading the absorption of cholesterol inside the walls of small intestines, in order to check blood cholesterol level from reaching the boundary limit. However, this drug has no impact on the more-than-normal presence of triglycerides, HDL and other fat soluble vitamins in the body. This is the reason why this drug is often recommended with a combination of an effective Statin drug or fibrate drug so as to stabilize the levels of all sorts of cholesterol ( HDL and LDL mainly), triglycerides and apolipoprotein B. The recommended dosage of this drug is 10 mg every day. This drug is known for causing bearable side effects like joint pain, back pain, diarrhea, sinusitis and more. These minor side effects are only observed in one in every 30 patients taking the regular dosage of this medicine. Sometimes, the repeated usage of this medication can cause nausea, both minor and severe levels, skin rashes, muscle damages and swelling. Owing to the side effects, it is advisable for the expecting women to thoroughly consult the dosage of this medicine with their practitioner before taking.
