What does High Cholesterol have to with Diabetes?

The people suffering from high cholesterol levels as well as diabetes are more prone to suffer from coronary heart diseases. Moreover the LDL level in a diabetic patient tends to be more dense and damaging than in a non diabetic patient. The people suffering from diabetes have high insulin levels in the body which also increases the amount of bad cholesterol and tends to form plague in the arteries. Moreover diabetes also leads to increased level of triglycerides which is also a fat circulating in blood.  High cholesterol can also be called as a predictor of diabetes, because elevated level of cholesterol are generally seen in people having insulin resistance even when they do not suffer from complete diabetes. People having Type 2 diabetes are more prone to risk from cholesterol as it exist even when the blood sugar levels are under control and causes blockage of arteries. Moreover the plague formation due to cholesterol in Type 2 diabetic patients are less fibrous and more fatty which further increases the risk of heart attack. Thus people suffering from diabetes and having no known heart disease should keep a check on their LDL levels to prevent the risk of various heart diseases and stroke.
