Holiday Foods for Cholesterol


Do not let your high LDL level interfere in your holiday plans and prevent you from enjoying as various holiday foods for cholesterol can be selected wisely. While holidaying, choose the fiber rich foods in your meals like legumes, nuts, whole grains and others. Include lots of fresh vegetables and fruits instead of other fried snacks. Keep walnuts along with you on your trips as it helps to keep cholesterol levels low and also proves to be a rich source of alpha linolenic acid and antioxidants.

Avoid food rich in saturated fats and Trans fatty acids and instead choose the ones which have unsaturated fats. To keep check on your high cholesterol levels while holidaying, kick start your day with a bowl of oatmeal or cereals like Cheerios which is also oat based.  Egg plant, okra and beans proves to be a good choice of food for the meals as they keep your LDL levels low and also keeps you full for a longer time after meal. Besides these, soy is also an excellent food for holidays and can be consumed in various forms like soy milk, dishes made of tofu and many others.

 Replace your butter and Trans fat margarines with olive oil or canola oil. Moreover while shopping for the packed food, look out the label for the ingredients and select the ones which are not loaded with Trans fat.
