Finding the Ideal Cholesterol Ratio

Excess of cholesterol is harmful for the body and thus it needs to be maintained at an ideal level. There are three main factors which play an important role in the determination of ideal cholesterol ratio and these include LDL, HDL and total cholesterol.
HDL i.e. High Density Lipoprotein is known as good cholesterol as it helps to keep your body healthy and fit. LDL i.e. Low Density Lipoprotein on the other hand is known as bad cholesterol as it causes heart attack and other such ailments. In order to find out the present cholesterol ratio, total cholesterol is divided by HDL. As per AHA the ideal ratio between total cholesterol and HDL is 3:5:1 and in all conditions it should remain below 5:1.
Besides this ratio between Total cholesterol and HDL there are other ratio as well which should be considered. The ideal ratio between HDL/LDL should be 0:4:1 while for LDL/HDL it should be 2:5:1. It is very important to keep check on the cholesterol levels as its excess amount can block the arteries and cause coronary heart diseases. A well balanced diet, regular exercise and healthy living style plays major role in keeping your cholesterol levels ideal.
