The Importance of HDL Cholesterol in the Body

All cholesterols are not bad. Body needs some good cholesterol in order to perform vital functions. This is called as HDL or high-density lipoprotein. Bad cholesterol is called as LDL. HDL reduces the growth of LDL as it moves it from arteries to liver.

This is very helpful as it reduces the risk of cardiac arrest and other heart disorders. HDL should not be in excess and its level to be maintained is 40mg/dl and should not exceed 60gm/dl otherwise it would increase risk of heart attack. HDL is known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. HDL also helps in reducing blood-clots.  HDL is known to absorb LDL. A holistic approach to life with a balanced lifestyle increases the level of HDL. Smoking intake of drugs and stress add on to low levels of energy and HDL. A good diet regime includes fresh fruits, vegetables, herbal teas, cereals, grains, tuna fish, foods with monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats increases level of HDL.

Replacing junk food, fast food and saturated fats with raw diet and skimmed milk and milk products help increase LDL. In order to reduce risk of heart diseases is it important to maintain the level of HDL. Exercise, meditation and healthy eating habits promote a healthy, mind and body.
