Is lowering LDL Cholesterol Enough?

The reduction in the level of LDL cholesterol, termed as the bad cholesterol by doctors, is an imperative achievement to cut down on the risk of heart disorders. However, the lowering of the elevated level of this cholesterol does not guarantee absolute prevention of atherosclerosis disease. The prevention as well as the treatment of this deadly disease is much more complex than just cutting down the LDL cholesterol levels. Atherosclerosis is a life-threatening disorder of heart which results into immense inflammation and collection of lipids, calcium and cellular debris in huge amounts in the intima of vessels. Individuals with normal or even mild levels of LDL can still develop this disorder and become susceptible to inflicting a heart stroke. According to numerous clinical trials, patients who strictly adhered to control diet and religiously took the cholesterol reducing medicines and successfully reduced their LDL cholesterol levels underwent the attack of atherosclerosis. Many of these patients also underwent deadly heart strokes in later stages.  Thus, it is clear that trimming the LDL cholesterol level is not the only preventive measure to evade this disease. There are numerous other factors involved that contribute towards creating an unhealthy environment for the progression of the atherosclerosis disease. Patients are recommended the dosage of estrogen and statin drugs that effectively work towards enhancing the levels of HDL cholesterol in the body.
