Myths about Lowering Cholesterol

Among common people, it is widely believed that food rich in saturated fat and Tran’s fat tend to raise the cholesterol level in human body which in turn leads to heart attack, stroke and other diseases. But according to Dr. Ravnskov, an increase in the cholesterol level in the blood may act as a shield against atherosclerosis and infections. In his book “Fat and Cholesterol are GOOD for you” he speaks about how high cholesterol can be beneficial even for individuals suffering from hypercholesterolemia. Another researcher Dr. Harlan Krumholz of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Yale University has found that people with high cholesterol enjoy a greater longevity of life compared to people with lower cholesterol level. It has also been found that old aged people with higher cholesterol level are less affected by coronary heart disease.

According to the findings of Professor David R. Jacobs people with lower cholesterol are more vulnerable to death caused by gastrointestinal and respiratory diseases. Based on Dr. Ami Claxton’s research it is concluded that people with lower cholesterol level get affected by the HIV virus more easily. In the book “The Cholesterol Myths” there are enough evidences to prove that infants with high cholesterol, which is also known as hypercholesterolemia, are less affected by infections compared to infants suffering from the Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome or low cholesterol level.
