Overcoming High Cholesterol
|
Keeping track of your cholesterol levels is important when trying to maintain your health, especially as a person ages. As a person gets older, high cholesterol levels puts them at a greater risk for cardiovascular problems.
The key factor to helping overcome high cholesterol is to be aware and to identify the factors that are putting a person at risk, and take the appropriate steps such as;
- Diet - A person’s diet is the largest factor when it comes to high cholesterol levels. When you indulge in a diet with high in saturated fats, then LDL levels also increase.
- Weight – Determine your BMI. If you know what your index is ,it will help you to become aware of the risk factors of high cholesterol levels.
- Smoking – Not only is there numerous reasons to quit smoking, but it does affect cholesterol levels. It allows the LDL to build up within your vessel walls.
- Age – The more you age, your body becomes less effective in controlling cholesterol levels.
There are some factors that you cannot change, but you can concentrate on lifestyle changes to promote a decrease in LDL levels and increase your HDL levels.
