High Cholesterol Prevention with Children

In United States, child obesity is becoming more and more common which in turn is responsible for the increase of cholesterol level in the children. Nowadays children prefer to spend more time watching television programs and playing computer games than actively participating in outdoor games. This results in absence of adequate amount of exercise in their daily life thus leading to children obesity. In order to stop children from being affected by high cholesterol certain guidelines should be followed. Firstly for children above the age of two you need to restrict consumption of junk foods and fried snacks that are high in saturated fat content. Replacing them with nutritious and healthy foods like green vegetables, whole grains, lean meat, fish, fruits and nuts will help a lot. The recommended quantity of saturated fat that a child can consume daily should not be more than 10% of the total calorie intake. But if a child is suffering from familial hypercholesterolemia than his saturated fat intake should be reduced to 7%.

Secondly children should be encouraged to spend more time playing outdoor games than idly sitting at home and watching television or staying glued to the computer screen. Exercises play a vital role in their daily life by keeping us fit and healthy.
