Who is at Risk for High Cholesterol?

The risk of high cholesterol is more in the following people:

A man above 45 is at a higher risk of high cholesterol than the men who are below his age.

A woman who is above 55 years has higher chances of having high cholesterol.

Normally, after menopause a woman’s LDL cholesterol level rises. This increases the chances of heart problems.

People whose family history has parents or siblings who had cardiovascular problems are at a higher risk.

Apart from these factors,

People who are not physically active are at a higher risk for high cholesterol.

Over weight or obese people can have high cholesterol.

People whose daily diet includes lots of saturated, processed foods are at a higher risk.

People who rely more on animal fat diet like meat and eggs rather than natural diet like vegetables and fruits are at a risk for high cholesterol.

High cholesterol is the result of high LDL and low HDL. Efforts must be taken to lower LDL which is bad cholesterol and enhance HDL which is good cholesterol in the body. More of HDL is good because it takes the responsibility of transporting excess of LDL to the liver for excretion. Thus there won’t be any deposits in the arteries.
