Supplements Used To Lower Cholesterol

Neglecting the rising cholesterol level in blood might cause serious complications to overall health inviting fatal diseases like heart disorder and stroke. Hence it is good to prevent the condition at the roots and the herbal supplements always make a better choice than chemically synthesized medicines.

Vitamin B3 which is also known as Niacin helps lowering LDL cholesterol. Recent studies have revealed that Niacin reduces triglycerides about 25% and raises the HDL cholesterol level up to 30%which is good for overall health. This is available as dietary supplements but the dosage should be decided by the physicians. Another herbal supplement that works noticeably in lowering cholesterol is the extract of artichoke leaves. It restricts the synthesis of cholesterol in the human body with the help of an ingredient called cynarin. It facilitates cholesterol excretion by increasing bile production.

Soluble fiber is another dietary supplement that can be taken to lower down the level of LDL cholesterol. It is obtained in various forms like rye, barley, oats, legumes etc. About 10 grams of soluble fiber needs to be taken daily for best results. Supplements containing plant sterols are equally effective in cholesterol treatment. However, seeking doctor’s advice is must before consuming any supplement in order to avoid any unwanted side effect.
