What Types of Treatments Are There For Cholesterol Related Heart Disease?


There are three types of treatment for cholesterol related heart disease which are termed as non-invasive, minimally invasive procedures and surgical procedures.

1. Non-invasive treatment: It includes the treatment of the cholesterol related heart disease which includes consumption of medicine, balanced diet and regular exercise. This treatment is used in the early stage of heart disease.

2. Minimally invasive procedures: It may require catheterization in which the physician reaches the heart of the patient through arteries of the legs or arms. They make use of special tools to inject dye, followed by clearing blocked arteries or inserting a stent which is a small stainless steel tube.

3. Surgical procedures: Surgeons open the patient’s chest for repairing the damage caused to the tissues of the heart, arteries, valves or vessels.

Non-invasive include risk factor modification, electrophysiology studies cardiac catheterization, treatments for coronary heart disease, valvuloplasty, medical treatment coronary artery or valve disease and endoluminal grafts.

Surgical procedures includes coronary artery bypass grafts, revascularization, artificial and tissue valve surgery, atrial or ventricular septal defect, MAZE which is used to correct atrial fibrillation, ventricular aneurysm repair, aortic aneurysm repair, ICD implants, pacemaker implants and transmyocardial.
