What Types of Treatments are there for High Cholesterol for Diabetics?


Treating the combination of high cholesterol and diabetes can be challenging but proper diet and medication helps to give effective results. Healthy lifestyle changes can also help to improve the situation. During this condition a well balanced low fat diet should be consumed as the fat coming from HDL sources proves to be ideal. Meals should be spaced out carefully and consumption of sugar should be minimal. The diet in such condition should be low in saturated fats and high in proteins. Moreover the fat content should come from food’s neutral content and not added by frying. Breakfast should be considered as an important meal for cholesterol – diabetic patient. These patients should completely avoid high carbohydrate food early in the morning and should rather go for handful of tree nuts, egg whites or legumes. Small frequent meals should be taken for the rest of the day instead of three big meals, so as to keep your blood sugar levels under control. Moreover include whole grain and high fiber food in your diet to eliminate cholesterol.  Medications are also prescribed by the doctor when needed. Thus apart from well balanced  diet and medication , exercising and  maintaining healthy weight also proves to be an effective way of treating high cholesterol with diabetes.
