What Type of Treatments is there for Peripheral Vascular Disease?
|
It may include some non surgical treatment like angioplasty where an artery is enlarged which was narrowed due to lipid deposition without surgery. An angiogram must be done prior to the angioplasty wherein the clots and the area where the narrowing has occurred are found out. Thou angioplasty is not that effective one can also go for Stenting which is permanent solution unlike the angioplasty.
It should be done in cases where the arteries are severely affected. Taking care of the feet and routine walking programs can help reduce the blockage causing restricted blood supply. Pentoxifylline can be taken to make your blood less viscous and increases the flexibility of the red blood cells; this would help the blood into the vessels which are already narrow or the narrowed by the disease. This is very helpful for the patients as the blood flow is made easy by this drug. One can also use the drug Cilostazol which prevents the clumping of the platelets whereby preventing any clots which can cause limited blood supply. Also it tends to dilate the blood vessel thereby improving the blood supply.
Another type of medication which might be prescribed during the peripheral vascular disease is the aspirin. The drug helps in diagnosis by slowing down the narrowing of the arteries although id doesn’t relieve any pain. Aspirin should be taken in very low doses. Other medications include anticoagulants, thrombolytic. Surgery is a best option in case the severity has increased.
